Zapfit Global

Mobile App      |     Norway
Project Overview
Finding the right workout buddy, wherever you are.

Zapfit Global was a social fitness mobile app designed to help people discover and connect with workout partners nearby. Users could find people based on location, preferred activities, fitness level and training frequency, then connect, chat and arrange workout sessions together.

At the time, social fitness apps centred specifically around finding compatible workout partners were still relatively uncommon, making Zapfit an interesting opportunity to explore how fitness, location and social networking could work together in a single experience.
The Challenge
The challenge was designing an experience that could support a wide range of fitness activities while still feeling simple and consistent.

Users could be interested in anything from running and hiking to boxing, swimming, cycling, gym workouts and even multi-sport activities such as triathlons.

This meant the interface had to accommodate different activity types, profiles, filters, appointments and social interactions without becoming overwhelming.

A significant part of the visual work also involved creating a large set of custom activity icons so each sport could be immediately recognisable while maintaining a consistent visual language across the app.
My Contributions
I worked closely with the client throughout the project, translating their initial concept into the overall mobile experience and visual direction.

My contribution covered the UX and UI design of the app, user flows, information architecture, interaction patterns, profile and buddy discovery experience, appointment flows, chat, onboarding, filtering and the custom iconography system for the different sporting activities.

The close collaboration allowed us to continuously refine the product based on the client's feedback while maintaining consistency across a fairly large number of screens and use cases.
I led the UI/UX design for Zapfit Global, working closely with the client to turn their idea of a social fitness platform into a complete mobile app experience. I designed the user journeys and key flows across onboarding, buddy discovery, profiles, filtering, chat, teams, appointments and notifications, while ensuring the experience remained intuitive despite the number of features involved.

I also established the visual direction of the app and created an extensive set of custom activity icons for different sports, including running, hiking, boxing, cycling, swimming and triathlon.

Throughout the project, I collaborated directly with the client, iterating on feedback and refining the experience as the product evolved.
My Role
UI/UX Designer
May 2018 - Mar 2019
Zapfit remains one of the projects I'm most proud of from a visual design perspective. The client was very happy with the final product, and the project was preparing to move into a second phase with further improvements and features.

Unfortunately, the project came to an unexpected end following the passing of one of the co-founders shortly before our next meeting. As a result, development of the next phase did not continue.

Despite that, Zapfit remains a particularly meaningful project to me. It gave me the opportunity to design an entire social fitness experience from end to end, work closely with the people behind the product, and create one of the most extensive custom icon and UI systems I'd worked on at the time.
