Mainstream Digital

Web App      |     Australia
Project Overview
Mainstream Digital was a web-based financial services platform designed for Mainstream Group, an Australian fund administration and custody provider.

The platform aimed to digitise traditionally manual processes used by Mainstream's clients, particularly around custody and investment instructions. Instead of relying heavily on emails and offline processes, users could manage their accounts, submit instructions, monitor holdings, approve requests and access reports through a centralised digital portal.

The platform covered a broad range of financial workflows including trade instructions, cash payments and receipts, foreign exchange, custody approvals, reporting and account administration.

The project was successfully delivered and well received by the client, becoming one of Mainstream's initiatives to modernise its digital services.
The Challenge
Financial platforms can become complicated very quickly. The challenge was to take information-heavy workflows involving trades, custody, approvals, reporting and account administration and turn them into an interface that felt structured and manageable.

Different users also had different responsibilities and levels of access. The experience needed to accommodate administrators, custody users and approvers while making it clear what required attention and what actions were available to each user.

Some workflows, particularly creating new trade instructions, involved a large amount of financial information and multiple parameters. A key UX challenge was finding ways to organise these complex forms without overwhelming the user.
My Contributions
I was the main UI/UX designer for the project and worked across the experience from early ideation through to the final interface.I translated the client's requirements and existing financial processes into user journeys, wireframes and eventually the complete UI.

This involved thinking through how users would navigate between account management, custody instructions, approvals, reporting and administrative functions while maintaining a consistent experience across the platform.A significant part of my work involved simplifying complex, data-heavy workflows.

I designed dashboards that surfaced important information at a glance, structured lengthy financial forms into more manageable interactions, and established reusable UI patterns for tables, filters, statuses, notifications, settings and approval actions.I also designed responsive experiences for key parts of the platform, ensuring users could access information and monitor activities beyond the desktop environment.

I worked closely with the client and development team throughout the project, iterating on the experience as requirements evolved and taking the product from initial concepts and wireframes through to final design and handoff.
As the main UI/UX Designer for the project, I was involved throughout the entire design process, from early ideation and understanding the client's requirements to mapping user journeys, creating wireframes and delivering the final UI designs.

I focused on simplifying complex financial workflows and organising data-heavy screens into a clear and consistent experience. I also designed responsive views for key areas of the platform and worked closely with the client and development team throughout the project.
